Piece of the puzzle

"It was Him who called me by my special name. It was Him who prepared a lot of things for me to do once I am out there. It was Him who gave me the breath of life, who granted me a soul and now gave me a body. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship, a safe place for my soul, the very inner part of me that no man will ever see, but that will be experienced by many as I am willing to share it.

My Creator didn’t just hand me a soul, randomly picked from the heavenly shelves. No, He gave me a soul shaped like His very own, full of love, ready to be shared with everyone. The little hole, the void in my soul, I now know, is nothing to be worried about. He takes a little piece of everyone, the first and also final piece of the puzzle of one’s life, just to make sure we stay connected. The Great Teacher once said

You are in me, just as I am in you (John 14:20).  Don’t ask me how He can hold so many pieces, He’s God and that settles it."

God has something with names

With the Creator things are different...
Sorek is living his second month in the womb, the month of Iyyar on the Hebrew calendar. He meditates:

"You're asking me if I know about the human custom to give names to newcomers. Yes, I know that my earthly parents will give me a name as soon as I am somewhat more of a person. But that is just earthly procedure. With my Creator, things are different. You see, except from the names on His hands, He has this book with names. I believe my name is in there too. As a matter of fact, I believe all of His creations may be in there, even the stars that no one can count. Okay, I admit, I am bragging, but I am bragging about the truth. It is said of my Creator that 'He has decided the number of the stars and calls each one by name' (Psalm 147:4). See what I mean? That is what I would call a pretty heavy statement. So, anyway, my spiritual name is in this book too; it is up to me if it stays there."

Meditation of Sorek

Sorek meditates on the melting together of spirit, soul, and body into one human being, made in the image of God. He calls it the womb-process:

"I am beginning to see the reason behind the process now. God creates humans because He loves them. Humans praise Him because they love Him. Praise is art. Art is love. Love is the Creator. It boggles my mind. I am really starting to love this whole human thing. I will be able to be fully human and yet still be with my Creator in spirit. This new life will not only broaden my horizon, but also multiply my means of praise and magnify my understanding of God and mankind."

About life before conception

Eternal life has no beginning and no end
Okay, so Breath of Life is about us being there long before we entered the human time zone. Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that our body returns to the ground where it came from and our spirit (Hebrew: ruach, or breath of life) returns to God who gave it. Well, it can only return to God if it has been there before!
Would that explain why we sometimes experience a deja-vu? Would that clarify why certain places or situations look familiar while we have never been there before, well, at least not consciously. Maybe...
I have given this a lot of thought. As Christians we believe we have eternal life in Jesus Christ. Eternal means 'without beginning or end'. We were always there... we just didn't have a human body. So I made up this character Sorek, he is not necessarily a baby or a child, although he lives in his mother's womb. He describes the incredible process of creation, the weaving together of spirit, soul, and body into one human being... made in the image and likeness of God!
Don't be afraid, I didn't go weird on this. I have based my story on biblical principles and scriptures.

If you haven't done so already, please pick up a copy and let me know what you think about life before conception!

In the image and likeness of God

Source of all life
As human beings we are made in the image and likeness of God. We are uniquely designed triune beings: spirit, soul, and body, yet ONE human being. In Breath of Life I like to take you on a journey to your earthly beginnings and beyond. Based on biblical concepts and a surprising array of scriptures I have painted an artistic picture of a colorful and loving God who is the source of all life.

Song of Creation

Sorek enters the human realm

It seems the time stood still
For just a tiny little moment
When my Creator spoke the words
Let him be...

It seems the time stood still
For just a tiny little moment
When my Creator granted me the dream
Let him go...

It seems the time stood still
For just a tiny little moment
When my Creator handed me my destiny
Let him live...

Yes, within that tiny little moment
All of eternity stood still
And saw a new beginning...

The Creator said
Let him be
Like Me!

About the weaving process...

The invisible things the Lord creates
In Breath of Life I have created the opportunity for the reader to take a peek inside the womb and to become friends with a new human being, a person in progress. A thinker and poet at heart, this little man Sorek freely shares his thoughts with us!
"The fact that some things are invisible does not mean they don't exist! I was there; I just didn't have a human form yet. I must admit I thought at first that the weaving process was just a matter of getting a body. Now I realize there is more to the package than mere form. The invisible things the Lord creates, came with it. Yes, I came with a future, with dreams and desires, with a love for life, and most of all with a unique character that includes my talents and abilities, my doubts and fears, and yes, even my little jokes."

Song of Sorek

Wonderful world

I leave my footprints along the sun-drenched flood line
I try to make a pattern, a mark so neat
But the waves are playing with those prints of mine
And nearly sweep me of my feet

Oh, to touch Your great creation
Oh, to be a part of Your wonderful world

I leave my footprints on this ancient mountain trail
The earth beneath my soles is soaking wet
The mud is sticking to my feet, still small and frail
And paints them with her deepest color red

Oh, to touch Your great creation
Oh, to be a part of Your wonderful world

I leave my footprints in the gold of glowing desert sand
My toes are digging for the cooler layer
While I let some dust run softly through my hand
And whisper all these thoughts in prayer

Oh, to touch Your great creation
Oh, to be a part of Your wonderful world

Meditation of Sorek

Happiness is like the evening breeze that refreshes you but leaves no traces. Sadness is like the rain that drenches you and leaves you wet and cold, even after the storm is long gone...
Why is it that bad moments seem to last the longest time while good moments rush by like the wind? I wish the happy times would have no end and last forever, like it was in the spiritual realm where I come from. Somehow I have learned that man is not able to capture happiness for a keepsake.

press coverage Breath of Life

Ventura County Star prints great article
"Marja Meijers' Breath of Life takes readers on a journey to birth"

Last Wednesday the Ventura County Star did an intersting article on my latest book Breath of Life, and I am very thankful for that. It is a great read as they have really pointed out what the book is about. I quote: "Taking it beyond a political debate, Meijers aims simply to present the issue of life vs. choice from the perspective of the unborn child".
To view it, simply click here and you'll be directed to the article. You can leave your comments on their page.
